Over 10 years ago, I wrote my first commercial web site. Technology at that point was in its infancy. However, it had a drop down menu, over 50 pages of content, detailed stock listings with thumbnail photos, background pages, maps, staff pages and order forms.

During my employment at 'Guitar Village' I have undertaken a variety of design work, from national magazine advertisements through to a twice yearly, in-house full colour catalogue, which was sent to over 13,000 previous customers throughout the UK. This included the design of background images, copy, layout and editorial content.

More recently, as the internet has advanced, I worked closely with a bespoke web design team to create the current Guitar Village web site. This includes full e-commerce facilities, newsletter subscription, online finance application, order processing, administration and despatch co-ordination, plus the set-up of an 'Ebay Shop' with extensive listings using 'Turbo Lister'. This has given me an in-depth knowledge of the procedures involved in designing a web site from both the customer's view point and the 'behind the scenes' side too.

From a marketing perspective, after the main web site was 'up and running' I worked extensively on 'Search Engine Optimisation' (SEO), and managed to increase the traffic to the site to an impressive peak of over 7,000 visitors per day. (That's visits, not hits, as the hit count was around 3 million per month).

In a bid to push my knowledge further and learn some of the more modern web design techniques, I have been studying subjects such as XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, ActionScript, PHP, MySQL and Java programming. I have recently become a member of the 'Academy of Certified IT Professionals' after completing a Diploma course in Web Design, which I passed with a Distinction.

My ethos has always been to draw on the strengths of each individual company, working closely with their design team, to create a virtual tool that will represent their business in a professional and efficient manner. For the last 12 years I dealt with clients on a daily basis, and pride myself on my ability to easily connect, communicate and understand the client's needs.
